Retrowave 4.0.0 is planned as the next major app update with a rebuilt home experience, stronger large-library handling, improved audio behavior, practical library tools, and optional Retrowave Radio integration.
Planned App Direction
- New modern Retrowave home experience focused on Music, Artists, Albums, Playlists, folders, and file formats.
- Large-library backend improvements for faster scanning, cached indexes, search, metadata cleanup, and diagnostics.
- Better audio/session handling across desktop and mobile while keeping Retrowave local-first.
Retrowave Radio Prep
- Optional self-hosted Retrowave Radio station support is being prepared alongside the website/server work.
- Radio remains separate from the offline player identity and does not add cloud accounts or library upload.
- Premade DJ, ads, news, jingles, and station IDs can be used by the self-hosted radio server.
Retrowave 3.0.0 is the stable local/offline release: a polished Home screen, dedicated playlists, local library power tools, diagnostics, refreshed icon identity, and a stronger no-account/no-cloud promise.
Local-Only Identity
- Retrowave is positioned as a local/offline music player for files already on your device.
- No account system, no cloud backup, no cloud sync, no remote library upload, and no streaming catalog dependency.
- Updated website, privacy, support, and app-facing wording around the local-only promise.
Home + Library
- Added a release-ready Home screen with quick access to local library actions.
- Improved practical library navigation with albums, artists, playlists, folders, formats, and smart local mixes.
- Improved large-library browsing behavior for classic album views and local collection screens.
Playlists
- Added a dedicated Playlists tab.
- Added local song search when adding tracks to playlists.
- Added playlist management polish for local collections and saved queues.
Library Power Tools
- Added M3U / M3U8 playlist import.
- Added individual and bulk playlist export as local files.
- Added local backup/restore, missing-file relinking, and local metadata overrides.
Diagnostics + Support
- Added a Diagnostics screen with copyable debug information.
- Added library counts, playback backend details, missing-file estimates, artwork completion, and version data.
- Improved support flow so testers can send actionable version/platform information.
App Identity + Windows
- Added refreshed icon artwork and selectable icon variants.
- Added Windows runtime icon switching plus desktop and Start Menu shortcut icon updates where supported.
- Fixed the Windows Volume Mixer identity so the audio session shows Retrowave Music Player instead of package-level backend text.
