These guides cover the most common customer workflows without requiring an account or cloud service.

Updates

Update without losing your library

  1. Export playlists and create a Retrowave local-data backup.
  2. Use My Purchases to download the current installer for the platform you own.
  3. Verify the checksum in the Release Center.
  4. Install over the existing release unless the release notes specifically require removal.
  5. Open the app and confirm the library, playlists, favorites, and playback queue.
Migration

Move Retrowave to another computer

  1. Copy the original music folders without changing their internal structure.
  2. Export playlists and app data from the old computer.
  3. Install Retrowave on the new computer.
  4. Import the copied music folders, restore local data, then relink paths when drive letters differ.
Windows

Handle a SmartScreen warning safely

  1. Confirm the installer came from the protected Retrowave download page.
  2. Compare its SHA-256 checksum with the Release Center.
  3. Open Properties and confirm the expected filename.
  4. Choose More info → Run anyway only after those checks pass.
Library repair

Relink missing files

  1. Reconnect the external drive or network location.
  2. Confirm the path is available in the operating system.
  3. Use Retrowave diagnostics to identify missing entries.
  4. Relink or re-import the moved folder rather than deleting playlists first.
Playback

Diagnose next-track or audio failures

  1. Test more than one audio file and format.
  2. Check whether the same file plays in another local player.
  3. Disable EQ, reverb, or spatial effects temporarily.
  4. Copy Diagnostics details and note whether the failure affects shuffle, manual skip, or end-of-track advancement.
Files

Investigate unsupported or damaged audio

  1. Confirm the extension matches the file’s real codec.
  2. Check that the file is not DRM-protected.
  3. Try a known-good MP3 or FLAC from the same folder.
  4. Retag or remux damaged files rather than converting the entire library blindly.
Removal

Uninstall without deleting music

  1. Create a local-data backup and export playlists.
  2. Uninstall the application through the operating system.
  3. Your source music folders remain separate and should not be removed.
  4. Delete Retrowave app data only when you intentionally want a complete reset.
